Ian Wright has waxed lyrical about Jarrod Bowen and, with the West Ham star set to face the Reds, is he at the level required to join Liverpool?
The Englishman has been in fine form for West Ham this season with three goals and three assists as the Hammers look to break into the Champions League qualifying spots.
They narrowly missed out last season, finishing just three points outside the top four and this term, with Michail Antonio in hot form, Bowen is playing an important role as part of the supporting cast for the centre-forward.
Yet despite his six-goal contributions so far this season, I have my doubts over whether he is good enough to play on the wing for Liverpool.
Bear in mind, Jurgen Klopp requires his wingers to do the bulk of the goal-getting and this has seen Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah put up some truly ridiculous numbers over the last few years.
Bowen is a fine player and I think he would be more suited to a no.10 role at Anfield if he joined the club. The Athletic claimed that the Reds want to sign him, while the Express said he is valued at £25million.
Ian Wright has been blown away by Bowen, waxing lyrical about him on his Wrighty’s House podcast.
“The work he puts in down the right-hand side, Jesus Christ. He got eight goals last season,” Wright said.
“If he can continue to get goals and put work in like that, we are talking about a sensational player. Sensational find.”
Bowen will be 25 in December and I just don’t think he’s quite at the level of some of Liverpool’s other attacking targets. At £25m, the likes of Karim Adeyemi will be available next summer.
Then there is Jeremy Doku, who is worth around £40million and would be the best pick if we are following FSG’s transfer model strictly.
