Jurgen Klopp provides Roberto Firmino injury update on Liverpool's 'nearly perfect' evening

The Brazilian has picked up an injury and Jurgen Klopp says it’s the only thing that he could complain about after a great win over Atletico Madrid.

Firmino has been in good form recently, with Diogo Jota’s competition for a starting place helping raise his levels. But he could be on the sidelines for the next few weeks.

He was withdrawn in the 78th minute for Divock Origi due to a hamstring complaint – the only negative on an otherwise perfect evening for the home side.

Liverpool are into the Champions League Round of 16 and have done so with two games to spare, which should help a few fringe players get some game time in Europe.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Klopp said: “If Bobby Firmino hadn’t gone off with a hamstring injury, it would have been much better.

“But it was a good performance. I wouldn’t have expected this when I saw the draw. For tonight, job done.”

The manager described the contest as nearly perfect, as the Reds effectively ended the contest in the first half with goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane.

Firmino played well but it wasn’t his best performance. Yet the good news on his injury is that, even if he misses 3-4 weeks with a hamstring strain, two of those will be spent on the sidelines during the upcoming international break, so he might not miss much football at all.

The same can be said about Naby Keita’s hamstring injury, but Klopp said the Guinean will be out “for a while” and so it could be that he is unavailable for a little more than a few weeks.
