Tyler Morton trained with the senior squad ahead of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid and he could be involved in the game this evening.
According to a report from Liverpool.com, the 19-year-old was spotted in Tuesday evening’s training session at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby and, if he is not involved in the U19 UEFA Youth League this afternoon, it’s likely he will be in the squad to travel to Anfield this evening.
Just last week, Jurgen Klopp spoke about his plan to get Morton first-team ready after his impressive displays in pre-season and in the EFL Cup this season.
He said: “You can see Tyler Morton, I told him now we pretty much have to send him directly to the gym now. “Because if he gets a body, he’s a brilliant footballer.
“There’s obviously some things to come physique-wise, but the football brain is outstanding.”
Liverpool have done wonders with their young players during Klopp’s time at the club, with the obvious shining example being Trent Alexander-Arnold. But Joe Gomez developed under the German and Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are part of the next batch of youth talent to emerge under his tutelage.
Morton has shown himself to be a very capable player and, as Klopp said, he’s got a great football brain and if he can develop his body in the gym, he could soon feature for Liverpool from the bench in the Premier League.
It is, however, more likely that he gets his minutes in the EFL and FA Cups as Klopp has demonstrated that he’s not all that fussed about the domestic cup competitions in England.
