Thiago Alcantara’s agency, the Player Management, has dropped a clue on Twitter which can be interpreted as a hint that their client will start tonight against Atletico Madrid.
Thiago, who reportedly earns £11,700,000 per year, has missed the last 11 games over 46 days due to a calf injury. But he has been in training the last few days and is in contention to face Atletico Madrid this evening.
According to a tweet from his representatives, the Player Management, we have a clue that the Spaniard could make his first start for Liverpool for over a month.
Having Thiago back in the side is huge for Liverpool if this is anything to go by as his control, composure and skill on the ball could be vital to breaking down the Atletico Madrid low block.
Naby Keita is a confirmed absentee and his volley made the score 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano. While Liverpool bottled that lead before winning the game through a Mohamed Salah penalty, his presence in the midfield will be missed.
It is for that reason that having Thiago will be an even bigger boost and, with so much experience on the European big stage, with 66 Champions League appearances for Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, the 30-year-old could help the Reds to victory tonight.
My only concern is that, after a calf injury, starting a high-intensity game against Atletico Madrid might not be the best thing for Thiago. However, if he’s been given the all-clear by the Liverpool medical staff, I’m not going to complain.
I would argue that he’s more needed against West Ham. The Hammers are tricky customers these days and Said Benrahma could give the Kopites the runaround if Liverpool don’t control the game properly.
