Mohamed Salah is in talks with Liverpool over a shiny new contract and his form this season has been out of this world.
15 goals. That’s how many strikes Mohamed Salah has so far this season, leading to many suggesting he is the best player in the world on current form.
At the current rate, Salah would score 58 goals by the end of the season if he plays the same number of games (51) as he did last term and, while you would expect him to tail off at some point, the Egyptian isn’t like other forwards.
We have seen him in scary form before but this feels different and, with the former Chelsea winger in talks over a new contract, I wonder if he’s playing to this level essentially to show the owners what they’d be missing if they didn’t keep him around.
If that’s the case, I hope they don’t give him his extension until the end of the year!
While Salah is expected to miss several fixtures in January due to the Africa Cup of Nations, he could still break the 40-goal mark with ease at the current rate and, if he does, Jurgen Klopp just needs the rest of his squad to play as a supporting cast to win silverware this season.
There was some melodrama and overreaction on social media on Saturday when Liverpool drew with Brighton, as you would expect. But the reality is that the Reds are in a strong position in Europe, into the EFL Cup last eight and just three points off first place in the Premier League.
All that and just about every midfielder at the club has had an injury…and it is only the beginning of November.
