Liverpool are facing a busy summer transfer window. The Reds need to move on some deadwood but also need to strengthen in key areas. Given the lack of departures last summer we could be in for a hectic one. According to ESPN, Liverpool could listen to offers for Joel Matip.
Joel Matip at Liverpool
Liverpool signed Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke in 2016.
The Cameroonian was a mainstay at the back during his early years at the club.
Eventually the arrival of Virgil van Dijk and the rise of Joe Gomez saw the lanky centre back dropped to third choice.
Despite his reduced role he consistently performed whenever the opportunity arose and put up a real fight for the starting berth.

He was a key player the season that the Reds won the Champions League in Madrid, he even provided an assist for Divock Origi in the final.
Liverpool could sell Joel Matip
This summer there’ll be plenty of departures from Anfield.
According to ESPN, Liverpool could listen to offers for Joel Matip.
Ibrahima Konate’s arrival has left the Reds with more than enough centre backs at the club.
There’s Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ben Davies, Ibrahima Konate, Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak.
Davies is yet to make an appearance and could well be sold on and Ozan Kabak’s loan is unlikely to be made permanent.
This would still leave the Reds with five centre backs which seems wholly unnecessary.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool selling Joel Matip this summer would raise much needed funds and would also serve to alleviate the bulge in centre backs.
It would be a real shame to see him leave, he’s something of a cult hero at the club.
However, his injury record is a great cause for concern and we need more reliability in the squad.
