Diogo Jota continues to go from strength to strength with both club and country.
The 24-year-old maintained his rich vein of goalscoring form last night as Portugal edged out Luxembourg in a 3-1 victory.
The goal cancelled out Gerson Rodrigues’ early opener and allowed Fernando Santos’ team to go in level at half-time.
This was Jota’s sixth goal for his country in just his fifth start. He also has two assists during that period.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Palhinha secured victory after the break, on a night that saw Jota play 68 minutes, bringing his total for the break up to 153, having been rested for the opening 1-0 win over Azerbaijan.

Jota celebrated his effort with the likes of Ronaldo, as well as Manchester City trio: Ruben Dias, Bernado Silva and Joao Cancelo.
Jose Enrique, too, was quick to jump to the support of Jota with an amusing jibe on Instagram, poking a bit of fun towards five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo.
Jota’s goal and sustained brilliance is great to see for those connected with Liverpool, particularly with a season-defining week looming over Jurgen Klopp and his team.
He now has 16 goals and three assists for club and country this term.
It’s fair to assume, then, that the process of evolution in Klopp’s attack is already underway. Jota’s stunning impact following his arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers last September has been gargantuan.
Moreover, Roberto Firmino’s game time looks set to be reduced in what feels like a changing of the guard at Anfield in regards to Liverpool’s pedigreed front-three.
