Liverpool have been ruined by injuries this season. The centre of defence has been the worst hit position with every senior pro ruled out until next season. This summer could see some chopping and changing of the back line. According to reports in Italy, Liverpool are leading the race for Kalidou Koulibaly.
Kalidou Koulibaly Napoli stalwart
29-year-old Senegal centre back Kalidou Koulibaly has been at Napoli since 2014.
The defender joined from Genk and has been an immovable member of the Napoli back line ever since.
Seemingly every summer the centre back has been linked with a move away from the Serie A side.
Sadio Mane is a huge fan of his compatriot, last summer describing him as a ‘world class‘ footballer.

Liverpool leading Kalidou Koulibaly race
This summer will see Jürgen Klopp settle on his centre back roster.
The current lineup is certainly not set in stone with Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak brought in at the 11th hour on deadline day of the winter transfer window.
There is still the possibility of further arrivals before next season.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Liverpool are leading the race for Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Reds are allegedly prepared to pay £42m for the Senegal star.
With the player’s contract expiring in 2022, his club are reportedly looking to cash in whilst they still can.
What RTK has to say
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This doesn’t make sense.
He is going to turn 30-years-old this summer and we’re refusing to pay Gini Wijnaldum what he wants because he is the same age.
The Reds are much more likely to splash out on a younger centre back who’s value will increase over time, a player like Ibrahima Konate.
