Borussia Dortmund have set their asking-price for Erling Haaland ahead of this summer’s transfer window, according to reports. The 20-year-old has been valued at an eye-watering €180 million.
This comes from ESPN. They claim that it will take an astronomical nine-figure sum to prize them out of the Norwegian sensation.
Dortmund set their price for Haaland
Haaland, who was labelled as ‘phenomenal’ by Gary Lineker, has been a revelation in Germany, scoring 49 goals in as many matches following his £17.1m move from RB Salzburg in December 2019.
He has scored 32 goals in 31 appearances this term, including a whopping 10 goals in six Champions League fixtures. Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, claims that as many as 10 clubs are in a position to sign him.
The eight-time Norway international made the switch to the Bundesliga from Austria amid interest from Manchester United. Dortmund signed Haaland after agreeing to include a £66m release clause in his contract. That clause, though, is not active until the summer of 2022.

Clubs can still sign Haaland this summer, although Dortmund have set their price at a gargantuan €180m. This effectively would be a €103m premium for losing the striker before his clause kicks in next year.
Dortmund underlined a similar stance when United tried to sign England international, Jadon Sancho, last summer. The Premier League side failed to match BVB’s €120m valuation of the forward, so Dortmund refused to negotiate.
And according to ESPN, Dortmund are intent on adopting the same transfer stance this summer. The report adds that Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also retian interest in Haaland, but there is, however, no mention of Liverpool.
The Reds were previously touted as a viable destination for Haaland by EuroSport back in November. The publication claimed that Anfield officials were confident that he would be Jurgen Klopp’s next big-money signing.
ESPN adds that their quite-frankly ridiculous asking-price will be enough keep Haaland at the Westfalenstadion for another year.
What RTK has to say
Well, we were pretty certain that Haaland would command an eye-watering price-tag, but this is just unfathomable from a Liverpool perspective.
The Athletic recently reported that the club had already accounted £100m worth of losses due to the pandemic. To then spend €180m on one player after such fluctuating revenue figures would be financially irresponsible.
So, it seems that Liverpool will have to turn their attention to other attacking candidates this summer. Haaland’s former Salzburg teammate, Patson Daka, has been mentioned as a viable target.
The 22-year-old has 27 goals in 31 matches this season, after all. If Liverpool could secure Daka for a similar fee to what Salzburg sold Haaland to Dortmund for, then the Reds could find themselves a potential bargain.
