Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to reports that Manchester City are in a ‘strong position’ to sign Danny Ings this summer.
Ings, 28, enjoyed a three-year spell on Merseyside before being sold to Southampton on a permanent deal back in 2019.
He clocked up just 25 appearances for Liverpool, but has gone from strength to strength on the South Coast – and City are now determined to make Ings the natural successor to the club’s all-time top goalscorer, Sergio Aguero.
This comes from Sky Sports. They claim that Ings has been identified as a more attainable target to Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
Ings to City?
Ings, who is about to enter into the final year of his St Mary’s contract, could be available this summer for a cut-price fee, with Southampton’s bargaining powers severely reduced.
Having finished last season as the Premier League’s joint-second goalscorer with 22 goals, there is no doubt that Ings would make champions-elect City a much more dangerous side next term.
Seeing him join the Etihad Stadium would hurt Liverpool, too, given he was once a Jurgen Klopp favourite, but the Reds could still benefit from a financial standpoint.
According to The Mirror, Anfield bosses inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause into Ings’ £20 million deal to join Southampton two years ago.
This means that Liverpool are guaranteed a financial boost if Ralph Hasenhuttl cashes in on the three-time England international this summer.
