Liverpool’s reward for victory against RB Leipzig is a Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid.
Our initial reaction is ‘bring it on’. This is a mouth-watering occasion that sees two teams with a combined 19 European Cups go head-to-head.
Of course, there are positive and negative elements to the draw.
Liverpool have avoided any of the English teams remaining in the competition, but face some familiar faces.
This is a repeat of the 2018 final in Kiev, which saw Zinedine Zidane and his team prevail as 3-1 winners.
Indeed, both Liverpool and Real aren’t having the best season from a domestic perspective. Zidane and Klopp are likely to fall short in the respective defence of their league championship crowns, after all.
This is the first time, too, that Madrid have made the last-eight of the competition since they went to distance in the competition two years ago.
The victor will face either FC Porto or Chelsea in the semi-finals.
