Thiago sends message to Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane after Wolves win

Thiago Alcantara has posted on Twitter following Liverpool’s latest victory.

The 29-year-old sensation came out of the hard-fought 1-0 win against Wolves at Molineux with some impressive stats, too.

Thiago pressed Nuno Espirito Santo’s team 30 times in just 60 minutes on Monday evening. Only Fabinho had a superior statistical output in that regard (34), although the Brazilian was on the field for an additional 24 minutes.

Perhaps what is most telling about the Spaniard’s impact is his willingness to adapt to a completely different brand of football. His average at Bayern last season, per FBref, was significantly lower (14.8), meaning he has been forced to alternate his game slightly at Liverpool.

In total, Thiago was defensively brilliant under the lights at Molinuex, clocking up an impressive four tackles and four interceptions – the joint-most from a Liverpool perspective.

Thiago sent a message this morning to Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane, who both combined brilliantly to slot home the only goal on the night.

This was Thiago’s 13th start for Liverpool since returning from a long-term knee injury back in December.

Jurgen Klopp’s men ultimately got over the line and Thiago’s defensive excursions were integral in Liverpool recording a third consecutive clean sheet on the road.

It was vital to get a win heading into the international break with Liverpool now just four points off those crucial Champions League spots.

Klopp will be hoping by the time is players are back in club action, he will have a sufficient number of returning faces from injury, notably Jordan Henderson.

What made Thiago’s message so encouraging was that it demonstrated the first time Klopp was able to utilise both Jota and Thiago in the starting XI for the first time since both players were signed back in September.

Their sustained influence in the coming months could be key in the team finishing off the 2020/21 campaign as strongly as possible.
