Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter after reports emerged that the Reds are ready to bid for Udinese club-captain Rodrigo De Paul.
This comes from Italian publication Tutto Udinese, who are part of the TuttoMercatoWeb network. They claim that Jurgen Klopp is hoping to secure the Argentine international’s services this summer.
In fact, the report credits Liverpool with a £26 million offer ready to be tabled to lure De Paul to Anfield.
This may not be enough, however, given Udinese’s asking-price of £40 million, per 90 Min, for the 26-year-old is considerably higher.
Also, the Serie A outfit are in no position to sell, either, given his contract at Stadio Friuli isn’t due to expire until 2024. Liverpool, then, will likely have to meet his asking-price, or move on.

So, will Liverpool spend that sort of money on a player? Well, a lot could hinge as to whether the Reds are in the market for a direct replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.
The Dutchman, after all, is still no closer to putting pen-to-paper on an extension to his pre-existing deal which is due to expire this summer.
Still, Liverpool will undoubtedly have other options, which explains why we are being linked with De Paul.
If Liverpool are to invest so heavily in a Wijnaldum replacement, though, surely it makes sense to spend the funds on a player who is significantly younger?
De Paul turns 27 in May, after all, meaning he doesn’t necessarily guarantee the Reds longevity which could be a cause for concern from a Liverpool perspective.
Indeed, we’re certainly intrigued by the prospect of landing the Udinese skipper. With 19 caps for his beloved Argentina, he definitely looks to offer a number of benefiting qualities.
That said, however, we can’t help but think Klopp may consider looking to a younger and potentially less expensive option than De Paul.
