Once again, Kylian Mbappe has become the subject of intense speculation following yet another landmark week for the 22-year-old superstar.
The France international has dominated this week’s headlines after Mbappe bagged a stunning hat-trick against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
It felt like a changing of the guard as the World Cup-winning forward’s latest showcase of genius has all-but seen Paris Saint Germain through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, at the expense of six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
And as a result, it has thrown the former Monaco starlet’s future into question. Mbappe, after all, has a contract at the Parc de Princes that is due to expire in 2022.
Liverpool’s two-hour meeting with Mbappe
According to L’Equipe, PSG and Mauricio Pochettino are confident they can tie Mbappe down to a lucrative new deal, despite his current contractual situation on standby.

However, the report adds that Liverpool and Real Madrid are the two clubs that stand a chance of landing Mbappe this summer.
It was claimed by ESPN just last month that Mbappe would be interested in the prospect of linking up with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Mbappe was reportedly close to joining Liverpool back in 2017, with L’Equipe adding that a two-hour conversation was held between club-owner John W Henry on his private jet.
It’s claimed that the founder of FSG attempted to win over Mbappe and his family with a two-hour flight as they discussed his future after Monaco.
Ultimately, Mbappe made the decision to remain in France and join PSG. However, following Liverpool’s collaboration with Nike, there has been added speculation that a deal could still be possible for the player to join Anfield.
Carragher on Mbappe
Even Reds legend Jamie Carragher admitted that his former side have a realistic shot at making the world’s most valuable star a Liverpool player.
“I’m not joking,” were Carragher’s words when asked is Liverpool could sign Mbappe, per CBS Sports.
“It was based on the fact that Liverpool thought they had a decent chance of getting Mbappe when he was at Monaco.
“I know Jurgen Klopp had spoken to him then and I’m sure other clubs had at that time.
“When Liverpool were in the Champions League final and won the Champions League a couple of years ago, I think anyone watching Liverpool there with Jurgen Klopp and the support of Anfield, if you’re ever gonna go to a club in England before you go to Real Madrid…
“Because I think he will, guaranteed, play for Real Madrid at some stage in his career but I’d always feel that maybe Liverpool is that perfect destination for a player like that before you make that next step.”
What RTK has to say
This transfer saga really just won’t go away, will it? Yes, it is likely that Liverpool retain an active interest in Mbappe – you don’t have to be a football expert to see why Jurgen Klopp would want him at Anfield, either.
Still, there is a part of us that feels that due to the financial restrictions of the pandemic, neither Liverpool or Madrid could afford to sanction a deal to land Mbappe at present.
If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on him staying at PSG, at least for the time being anyway.
