Liverpool fans react to Ozan Kabak comments after Leipzig win

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react to the comments made by 20-year-old defender Ozan Kabak in the aftermath of the 2-0 win against RB Leipzig.

The deadline-day addition from Schalke made his first Champions League appearance since 2018 in the Hungarian capital on Tuesday night.

An emphatic start

Kabak certainly made up for lost time, too, keeping a clean sheet alongside Jordan Henderson, with the Reds making big steps towards the quarter-finals of the competition.

In only his second Liverpool appearance to date, Kabak was utterly imperious. The seven-time Turkey international impressed supporters so much that he was overwhelmingly voted to take home the Man-of-the-Match award.

In total, he made four tackles, three interceptions, two clearances and won two of his aerial duels, per WhoScored.

It wasn’t just what Kabak did on the pitch that made a lasting impression amongst supporters, but his actions away from the field, too.

At full-time, the former Stuttgart defender was asked to share his thoughts on the challenges the second leg at Anfield would hold, and his comments have certainly resonated well with Kopites.

Speaking with DAZN, he said: “I hope and I know that we will win in the second leg and go through.”

Not lacking in confidence

The return fixture is due to be played on March 10, with Liverpool currently holding a two-goal advantage.

The objective, then, is simple. Avoid defeat and we’re in the last-eight of the competition.

Given Liverpool’s recent struggles domestically, a tilt at the Champions League suddenly represents the club’s best opportunity of securing silverware this season.

Luckily, Kabak isn’t lacking confidence heading into the business period of the season. At such a young age, he already looks to possess the mentality of an elite-level athlete.

To walk into a new country with such confidence and belief is only a good thing from a Liverpool perspective.

It’s no surprise, then, that supporters have reacted well to Kabak’s comments and believe Jurgen Klopp has inherited the talents of a player with similarities to none other than Virgil van Dijk.

Let’s have a look at some of the responses from a number of Kopites on social media…
