Second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane saw Liverpool take a commanding step towards the Champions League quarter-finals. The Reds are firmly in control of the first leg of the two-legged tie, which was played in Budapest.
It was the perfect response from the English champions following three Premier League defeats on the spin. Jones, in particular, was amongst the outstanding Liverpool stars.
The 20-year-old showed maturity beyond his years to put in a stunning performance in what was his 40th senior appearance for his boyhood club.
There was composure, strength, vision and flamboyance in abundance as Jones toyed with Leipzig from start-to-finish.

It was telling that Jones, who was previously hailed as ‘outstanding‘ by Jurgen Klopp, has started in huge fixtures in recent weeks against Manchester City, Leicester and Leipzig.
Ultimately, Jones has capitalised on the opportunities made available to him as a result of injuries to other players. In recent weeks, he’s been picked ahead of the likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Klopp’s faith was vindicated and some, in what was arguably Jones’ most mature and convincing performance to date.
In total, he created one chance, completed one dribble and won four fouls for his team, per WhoScored.
Defensively, he was equally effective. He made one tackle, three interceptions and one clearance to cap off a resounding overall performance from the West Derby midfielder.
It’s no wonder, then, that the likes of Danny Murphy and Stephen Warnock were singing Jones’ praises on social media.
The two former Liverpool players, now turned pundits, sent Jones messages of congratulations on Instagram – as did Arsenal sensation Saka.
