Jamie Carragher has said that Liverpool require three summer additions in the transfer window if they are to have any aspirations of winning the title next season – which has prompted many supporters to call for Jurgen Klopp to sign Erling Haaland.
The former Liverpool defender was very vocal with his thoughts on how the club need to address their recent ongoing struggles.
“Liverpool need three players. A centre back, someone to replace Wijnaldum and someone to come in for the front three”, Carragher said, per Sky Sports.
“They just haven’t stopped for three years. That’s why I say they need a little bit of help. Man City are a massive example for Liverpool. What Man City are doing now should be an example is that it is not the end of the world and they can come back next season.
“I’m talking about players to come into the team, like Matip, Wijnaldum and Mane did and like Salah, Van Dijk and Alisson did. That’s what Liverpool need.”

What RTK has to say
It’s no secret that Liverpool’s forward line will soon be in need of an upgrade given the fact the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have been together for four seasons now.
This is rather uncommon, especially for a triumvirate of attacking all-stars to have remained together for so long. Also, the fact that all three players are practically the same age, too, suggests that sooner or later, a phasing out process will need to be prioritised.
If we are going off form alone over the past 12 months, it seems that Firmino is likely to be the player that is transitioned out first, unless the club were to sanction an eye-watering move for either Salah or Mane.
The Brazilian forward has struggled of late, and there has been a noticeable drop-off in his performance levels, even during the procession to the title last season.
Firmino, after all, has just seven goals in his previous 38 league matches.
If we are being brutally honest, this is a pretty poor return, even for a player whose qualities go well beyond just scoring goals.
As Mane and Salah continue to get older, Liverpool cannot solely rely on the aforementioned pair of wingers to deliver the goods in front of goal.
With that said, it makes sense, then, for the Reds to identify a player who can offer the club an immediate and long-term solution.
In the case of Haaland, there simply isn’t a better ready-made option currently on the market.
The Norwegian international has been scoring for fun in the German top-flight since he arrived from RB Salzburg last year.
Haaland has 14 goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season despite his team’s struggles, and he boasts an overall total of 38 goals in 40 Dortmund appearances since joining.
The Brazilian struggles aren’t the only concern, either. None of Salah, Mane or even Diogo Jota are natural strikers at this point, which leaves Liverpool with only Divock Origi as the other option. This isn’t enough if the club really are intent on getting back on their title perch.
Meanwhile, Haaland guarentees something that has dried up for Liverpool, especially of late – and that is goals.
He is affordable, too, as Haaland has a release clause that comes into effect in the summer of 2022 for just £66 million.
Dortmund could, then, be forced to cash-in on a slightly improved offer in just a few months time to avoid the risk of losing the 20-year-old striker for such a moderate fee.
Put simply, this is a bargain that Liverpool cannot afford to overlook.
Luckily, for us, we aren’t the only ones who think Haaland is a no-brainer for the club this summer.
