Liverpool’s recent aura of invincibility in the league at Anfield was extinguished for a second consecutive fixture as Brighton ran out deserved 1-0 winners on Wednesday night. The Reds were totally abject and bereft of ideas. They looked like they were running on empty. One player who caught the eye of the Anfield faithful was Yves Bissouma.
Liverpool 0-1 Brighton
Perhaps the only shock was that this was no shock at all.
This defeat leaves Liverpool trailing Manchester City by seven points, and having played a game more.
Let’s be brutally honest, this injury-hit, confidence-sapped group of players that has lost consecutive home fixtures to Burnley and Brighton simply do not look capable of beating Pep Guardiola’s well-oiled machine.
Still, some context is required to lift the gloom and doom. Jurgen Klopp was deprived of the likes of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Joe Gomez, Fabinho, Joel Matip and Diogo Jota against Brighton, after all.

According to ESPN, Brighton’s Yves Bissouma has been mooted as a viable summer alternative Klopp could look to explore if Gini Wijnaldum were to leave the club.
He is currently valued at £30 million, according to reports.
It was easy to see why following his Anfield audition. Bissouma was one of Graham Potter’s standout players.
In total, he made two tackles, five interceptions and blocked two shots to round off a dominant display in the middle of the park.
On the ball, he was equally as impressive, clocking up more passes (47) than any Brighton player on the pitch. It truly was a stunning all-round performance.
In the midst of defeat, at least Liverpool supporters were treated to an assured and dominant audition at the home of the English champions. It just happened to be from an opposition player.
