Liverpool have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Bayern Munich wonderkid Jamal Musiala, according to reports. The teenager and Bayern have hit a deadlock in contract negotiations.
This comes from Goal. They believe that Musiala’s wage-demands are proving to be a struggle for the two parties to reach a contract agreement.
Musiala, 17, joined the current Champions League holders from Chelsea in July 2019.
In quick time, the England U21 international has risen to prominence in Hansi Flick’s European-conquering outfit.
This season, he has already clocked up 20 appearances across all competitions. In 12 Bundesliga fixtures this term, he has scored three goals for the current league leaders.
Naturally, this has prompted Bayern to secure the youngster’s long-term future at the Allianz Arena, but this is proving more difficult than first anticipated.
According to Goal, Musiala is holding off for a payment-packet worth in the region of £100,000-a-week.
The report adds that the versatile attacking midfielder’s representatives feel Musiala is deserving of such demands, as a result of his accelerated development and growing interest amongst European rivals.
With that said, it appears Liverpool are keeping close tabs on the player’s unresolved contractual situation.
This will certainly excite Kopites given the Bundesliga’s official website recently liked Musiala to Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli.
What RTK has to say – Are Liverpool back in the running for Musiala?
This is certainly a contract saga to keep a close eye on, especially amid the exit rumours surrounding Gini Wijnaldum.
Indeed, it is unlikely Liverpool would look at Musiala as a potential replacement for the Dutchman. However, given the player’s age and experience, it could still represent a viable long-term investment.
Liverpool have the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the manager’s disposal, after all. Even if Wijnaldum were to leave, there isn’t an immediate need for a direct replacement. The Reds still have plenty of options elsewhere.
This makes the case of Musiala all the more intriguing, then. Klopp has committed his future with the Reds until 2024, after all. The Liverpool boss is clearly looking to be part of a club rebuild.
With that said, signing up-and-coming talents such as Musiala certainly makes sense.
By the time the likes of Henderson, Thiago and Milner are ready to be moved on, Musiala will hopefully be at a level where he can immediately slot in.
Still, whether or not he can still reach a contractual compromise with Bayern remains to be seen. If his situation changes, let’s hope Liverpool are waiting in the wings to make their move.
