Liverpool supporters have made their intentions known regarding the possibility of free-agent Sokratis joining the Reds, following his departure from Arsenal yesterday.
The Gunners announced that Sokratis would depart the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, with Liverpool supporters keeping close tabs on developments.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Jurgen Klopp was handed the opportunity to sign the 90-time Greece international earlier this month, as per the Here We Go Podcast.
However, Liverpool supporters aren’t totally convinced that the 32-year-old is a viable short-term solution to the club’s defensive woes.
Here are a selection of tweets from Kopites reacting to whether or not Liverpool should take a chance on the former Borussia Dortmund centre-back.
What RTK has to say
Not to worry Liverpool fans, this is a move that we just cannot fathom happening anytime soon.
For one, Jurgen Klopp has previously reiterated that the club will avoid dipping into the January transfer window for a short-term fix.
Moreover, Liverpool pride themselves on strategic thinking and long-term planning, after all. With that said, it’s more likely Klopp will wait until the summer where a more realistic and attainable target becomes available.
This was backed up by The Times, who report that the Liverpool boss will address his defensive conundrum at the end of the season.
Klopp, then, looks intent on continuing to utilise internal solutions as Liverpool look to cope in absence of their first-choice centre-back partnership.
With Joel Matip back in the team, hopefully, the Cameroonian defender and Fabinho can remain durable until the end of the season.
