Sadio Mane has provided a positive update on his fitness levels heading into Liverpool’s top-of-the-table clash against Manchester United this afternoon.
The Senegalese ace picked up a back problem during the 4-1 victory against Aston Villa earlier this month. Mane appeared to be struggling during the FA Cup clash, but he has since assured supporters that he’s ok and raring to go ahead of the titanic Anfield encounter.
Mane, 28, has been training as normal at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre in Kirkby this week, and he’s confirmed that there was no lasting damage from the Reds’ previous fixture.
“Yeah, it was just a knock and when I got it, it took a few minutes to settle down. It was like a dead leg, but on my hip – not my back. After the game, I put an ice pack on it and it was fine. I am completely fine and looking forward,” Mane told the club’s official website.
What RTK has to say – Mane Liverpool’s best attacking source?
This is certainly good news from a Liverpool perspective given Mane was the team’s most creative outlet during the disappointing defeat to Southampton.

Mane, who has scored six Premier League goals this season, was the only attacker who looked most likely to provide a cutting edge as Liverpool fired blanks at St Mary’s.
The former RB Salzburg prodigy had previously endured his longest barren run in front of goal during his four-and-a-half-year Anfield tenure, having gone eight league matches without a goal before netting during Liverpool’s 7-0 pre-Christmas hiding at Selhurst Park.
He followed that up by opening the scoring at West Brom, before Liverpool were pegged back in a disappointing draw. As a result, the Reds haven’t found the net in the league since.
Fortunately for Liverpool, their most in-form attacker is fit and firing ahead of the club’s biggest game of the season so far. He is one of several players who can certainly make the difference against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s league leaders.
