Liverpool have a ‘genuine interest’ in signing Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White, according to reports – and supporters have reacted on Twitter.
This comes from The ECHO. They believe White has been extensively scouted by Liverpool with a long-term view to sign the 23-year-old defender.
The Reds regularly monitored White’s development in the Championship last season during a season-long loan period with Leeds United. Liverpool were well aware of the interest in the versatile defender before he signed a new contract at the Amex back in September.
His new deal with Brighton is due to expire in 2024, as per transfermarkt.
Liverpool want White
However, according to The ECHO, club officials remain confident that a future deal for White could still be put into place. Liverpool’s detailed scouting report was done with a long-term view, after all.

The Reds typically work towards a system that enables them to search the market with a two-year plan for potential future stars. White was involved in a similar assessment process, and as a result, has been identified with a view to act in the summer of 2021.
Jurgen Klopp has previously ruled out the possibility of signing another centre back this month. With that said, it seems Liverpool plan to address their defensive conundrum in the summer as opposed to January.
It’s easy to see why Klopp is an admirer of the former Newport County talent, too.
White is an extremely versatile player who can play in a number of positions across the defensive back-line, as well as in defensive midfield.
Against Manchester City on Wednesday night, White was deployed in the holding role and gave a good account of himself against Liverpool’s title rivals.
Overall, he boasted an impressive pass completion rate of 90.2 per cent – the best from a Brighton perspective. Defensively, he contributed one tackle, two interceptions and one clearance, as per, WhoScored.
His durability, too, makes him an attractive prospect to pursue in the summer market. White has started all but one of Brighton’s 18 Premier League matches this season, after all.
White played the full 90 minutes against City and impressed, with his fine array of passing on show.
As a result, amid the growing transfer reports, many Liverpool supporters have reacted to prospect of landing White in a few months time.
Overall, there was a mixed response with some supporters urging the club to act now as opposed to next summer.
