Thiago Alcantara took the time to showcase his admiration for the likes of former Liverpool icons Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard.
The Spanish international highlighted the influence in particular to Alonso, who he played alongside for Bayern Munich and the Spanish national team.
Alonso, 39, clocked up 210 appearances for the Reds during a five-year spell from 2004 to 2009. It’s clear that the Champions League-winning midfielder made quite an impact on Thiago.
“I have already played with Xabi Alonso,” he said the during a special Q&A with supporters. “I can tick it and say I have played with him.
“With Xabi, Xabi is a friend, a team-mate and a teacher for me while we were playing together at Bayern and the national team.
“I like him a lot and respect him as a player, as a person and now as a coach.”
Alonso responded to his former teammate on Instagram saying: “Well played Magic Thia, picking some scouse accent.”
Thiago also spoke in great admiration to former Liverpool captain and club icon Gerrard, revealing he’s looking forward to meeting the current Rangers manager once he’s settled into life in his new city.
“I have massive respect for the story of Steven Gerrard at this club. He changed the club as well,” he said. “I look forward to meeting him.
“Steven Gerrard is a legend. If I had played alongside him, it would have been a way to learn more football.”
In response to Thiago’s glowing words of compliment, Gerrard also took the time to shout out the equally brilliant Spaniard on Instagram.
His post read: “That would of been a pleasure trust me.”
