Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has a title message for Liverpool

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has sent an emphatic message to Liverpool ahead of their gargantuan top-of-the-table encounter at Anfield on Sunday.

Ole Gunanr Solskjaer and his team moved three points above Jurgen Klopp’s Reds at the Premier League summit. Paul Pogba’s match-winner against Burnley last night was enough to take United up to 36 points after 17 matches.

It all sets up nicely, then, for arguably the biggest match of the season so far as Liverpool and United lock horns in just four days time. United midfielder Matic [£40 million] is certainly relishing the prospect of going toe-to-toe with the reigning English champions.

“I’m happy for the team performance and spirit. Let’s see Sunday against Liverpool”, the 48-time Serbian said, as per Goal.

“It’s the biggest derby in England. We go there to compete with them and see where we are against one of the best teams in the league. I think we are ready.”

What RTK has to say

If Liverpool are to get their form back on track and hand out a resounding title message, then Joel Matip will be key. Klopp’s issues this season have undoubtedly been largely due to an absence of quality in key areas.

With that said, Matip’s involvement could decide the outcome of such a mouth-watering fixture. The Cameroonian is unbeaten in the league since January 2018, after all.

There is no doubt that on paper, Liverpool have the best squad in the league. However, in the absence of key figures such as Virgil van Dijk, Thiago and Joe Gomez, Liverpool have naturally struggled.

Particularly with Van Dijk, Liverpool have missed the impact of the club’s most transformative signing of the modern era.

Could you imagine how different the table would look had United lost Bruno Fernandes for such a sustained period?

The Portuguese international is arguably just as integral to United at this present moment as Van Dijk has been to Liverpool, after all.

As a result, it makes sense that the title race is made to look a lot closer this season. The fact Liverpool are still in the running is a testament to the relentless mentality Klopp has instilled amongst his players.

Beating United on Sunday would certainly hand back Liverpool a significant advantage in the title race.
