RB Leipzig have opened the door to the possibility of selling Liverpool target Dayot Upamecano, according to reports. The club’s CEO Oliver Mintzlaff insisted Leipzig will always consider selling their prized-assets at the right price.
This comes from Goal. They claim that Liverpool could capitalise on Leipzig’s financial situation and potentially strike a deal in the summer.
The German side have given clear indication that they are prepared to do business in regards to an appropriate Upamecano deal.
CEO Mintzlaff told SportBild that Leipzig will “sell top performers again if it makes financial sense”, which could open the door for Liverpool to swoop for the France international this summer.
Indeed, the 22-year-old is on Jurgen Klopp’s radar, according to reports. However, the prospect of a January swoop has been ruled out after the Reds boss confirmed Liverpool would not enter the market this month.

In terms of a fee, Goal report that Upamecano, who is contracted to Leipzig until 2023, has a €42 million (£39m/) release clause that will become active this summer.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Upamecano would make a lot of sense. In terms of a long-term target, the Frenchman is arguably the best on the market.
Also, in terms of price, there is sufficient value to be had if the reported figures are indeed true.
Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip will both be 30 come the start of next season. With that said, Liverpool need to begin looking at long-term defensive alternatives to partner Joe Gomez.
Furthermore, given Liverpool’s recent injury crisis, some added depth in the centre-back department would certainly be welcomed by Klopp, also.
At 22, Upamecano has already clocked up 133 appearances at Leipzig and has been capped three times by his country.
Liverpool pride themselves on sticking to a clear strategy and long-term planning, after all. The club, then, does not entertain quick-fixes. If they can’t get what they want, they are prepared to wait.
With that said, if the reports surrounding Upamecano are true, don’t be surprised to see Liverpool’s name in the running.
The Reds have a good working relationship with the Red Bull clubs, after all.
