Liverpool are keeping tabs on the situation concerning Strasbourg centre-back Mohamed Simakan, according to reports. The Reds are the latest European outfit to join the race for the versatile 20-year-old defender.
That’s what Telefoot journalist Julien Maynard is claiming. His report states that Liverpool have joined AC Milan and RB Leipzig in the pursuit for the highly-rated Ligue 1 whizkid.
Liverpool are waiting to make their interest known to Strasgourd, as of this moment, although Jurgen Klopp is said to be keeping tabs on the situation.
The report adds that AC Milan have already €15 million (£13.5m) for the 37-time Ligue 1 defender. Paolo Maldini, the club’s technical director, is certainly a big fan.
Simakan, now 20, is a French-born centre back by trade. However, he has demonstrated this season that he has the versatility to play either right-back or in central midfield.

He made his debut for Strasgourd last season. He played 90 minutes during a 0-0 stalemate with Stade Reims in August 2019.
It’s unclear whether Liverpool will ramp up their interest in the versatile defender in the coming weeks. Jurgen Klopp recently claimed that the club had no active plans to sign a centre-back in January, after all.
“No, I cannot say definitely we will not bring anyone in, it’s just not likely because of the situation in the world,” Klopp said on Thursday.
The Reds are currently lacking in the defensive department, too. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all out injured, in fact.
Simakan’s reported interest, unsurprisingly, has been met with great trepidation by supporters.
Dayot Upamecano, Ben White and Ozan Kabak have been linked to Liverpool in recent months, after all, as per The Athletic.
As a result, supporters have expressed their doubts regarding the validity of the report which has channelled a mixed reaction from Kopites.
Nevertheless, here are a selection of responses from supporters in regards to the rumours surrounding Liverpool and Simakan.
