Liverpool are Real Madrid’s ‘No.1 rival’ in regards to the race for Kylian Mbappe, according to reports. Jurgen Klopp and the Reds have one major advantage, however.
A report from Spanish publication AS had an update regarding the future of Mbappe. They claim that Jurgen Klopp is ‘a rival’ to Real Madrid for the player’s signature.
They also state that Liverpool shareholder and Basketball icon LeBron James could hold the key to Mbappe choosing Anfield over the Bernabéu.
The four-time NBA champion reportedly ‘stands between’ Los Blancos and Mbappe with James recently trading Instagram profile pictures with the Frenchman.
According to AS, the switch was part of a sponsorship deal with Nike. Mbappe and James two of the biggest ambassadors for the sporting enterprise.

Nike also recently begun a collaboration with Liverpool at the start of the 2020/21 campaign. As a result, this would reportedly ‘make it easier’ for Mbappe to move to Merseyside as opposed to Spain.

This certainly is an exciting development. Mbappe is the biggest player on the transfer market, after all. Any advantage Liverpool can strike at this point is huge.
Such developments are one of the many reasons why Liverpool securing a long-term collaboration with Nike had countless off-field benefits.
For one, it enhances Liverpool’s status as one of world football’s leading forces. This in effect, makes it more appealing for some of the game’s biggest stars to consider Anfield as a viable destination to take their talents to the next level.
