Liverpool are set to battle Real Madrid for the signing of Kylian Mbappe, according to reports. Anfield officials have “moved to persuade Mbappe’s entourage about a transfer in recent weeks”.
This comes from AS in Spain. They talk about how Liverpool are prepared to battle Los Blancos for the signature of arguably the most coveted young player in world football.
The report adds that club officials have begun first contact with Mbappe’s entourage recently. This would suggest that Liverpool haven’t ruled out the possibility of a move for the Frenchman, after all.
Klopp previously stated that Liverpool had “absolutely no chance of signing Mbappe. However, it now appears that the Reds do, indeed have the funds to complete a deal.
According to reports, any potential deal for Mbappe would have to surpass the £165 million [BBC] Paris Saint Germain paid to sign him in 2017.

What RTK has to say – Can Liverpool realistically land Mbappe?
This isn’t the first time Mbappe has been linked with a move to Anfield. In fact, it’s the second report this week that has touted the 22-year-old as a viable target for Liverpool. The first, as mentioned by AS, came from L’Equipe in France.
It’s worth mentioning, too, one of the many variables that makes this a plausible deal in the future. For one, Mbappe’s contract is due to expire in 2022 and he doesn’t appear intent on signing a new one.
Also, given the nine-figure sum PSG paid for Mbappe, next summer represents their best opportunity of securing the best deal for the club’s most valuable asset.
If Liverpool want to sign him, they would likely have to shatter their club record deal by more than double.
This could happen if the Reds were to cash in on one of their pedigreed front-three. Mohamed Salah failed to rule out a future move to Real Madrid or Barcelona during an interview with AS, after all.
The stature of Mbappe certainly makes him a deal worth getting exciting about. For one, he is the best attacking option currently available on the market.
Liverpool signed a guaranteed ready-made winner when they fought tooth and nail to sign Thiago. However, signing Mbappe would see the Reds land the most in-demand player currently on the planet.
With that said, signing Mbappe would arguably be an even bigger than the Thiago deal last summer.
There is no bigger signing and there may not be for some time. If Liverpool indeed are to sell one of their established forwards this summer, it will take some replacing.
Signing Mbappe is perhaps the one player on the market guarenteed to fill the attacking void.
For that reason alone, Liverpool must ensure they are in the fold if PSG decide to cash-in on the World Cup winner later this year.
