Peter Crouch told Amazon Prime that Roberto Firmino is ‘definitely underestimated’ in the air for Liverpool. The comments follow not too long after his stunning last-gasp winner against Tottenham Hotspur last month.
Firmino, 29, towered over Toby Alderweireld to score a brilliant header for Liverpool in a 2-1 victory over Jose Mourinho at Anfield.
During his playing days, Crouch, himself built up a reputation for his dominance and prowess in the air.
And he feels someone like Firmino, whose place came ‘under threat’ when Diogo Jota arrived from Wolves last summer, has ‘a very good ability’ in the air.
“He’s a player that grows in confidence when he gets goals,” said Crouch. “He has had his issues with goals over recent years.

“But when he gets one, he seems to get a few. I think his place became under threat a little bit when they signed Diogo Jota. He’s the one player I think with Salah and Mane, he compliments them so well.
“We all know about his work rate and what he gives to the team. Now he’s getting goals. I think he’s definitely underestimated in the air. I think aerially he’s very good.”
RTK view – Is Firmino still underrated?
Firmino has been truly outstanding in recent weeks. The Brazilian has left his mark for two games in a row, following on from his last-gasp winner against Spurs.
It is a timely reminder of the £29 million [BBC] forward’s quality to Liverpool. Diogo Jota has been out for a few weeks and Firmino has stepped up in his absence to find his edge in front of goal after a worrying dry spell.
Hopefully, Firmino’s heroics against Spurs can be the start of a bright run of form as we begin 2021 top of the Premier League table.
