Liverpool fans have heaped praise on Steven Gerrard following Rangers’ 1-0 win over title rivals Celtic this afternoon. He is among the top candidates to become Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield.
The Gers secured win No.28 of the season having overcome bitter rivals in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox. A Callum McGreggor own goal was enough to take Gerrard 19 points clear at the league summit.
The former Liverpool captain has clocked up 62 points in the Scottish Premiership this season – remaining unbeaten. But it gets a lot better than that. Of the 22 league matches they’ve played, Rangers have conceded just five goals.
While that is hugely impressive, perhaps the most impressive stat is that Rangers have kept a whopping 18 clean sheets during that period.
As a result, Gerrard has been linked on numerous occasions with Liverpool and signed a contract with Rangers until 2024, not long after Jurgen Klopp had done the same at Anfield. There have been question marks as to whether he is ready or not, however.
But with a first title seemingly in the bag in just his third season at Rangers is surely proof that the 40-year-old has what it takes.
In the aftermath of the win against Celtic, a number of Liverpool supporters have taken to Twitter to applaud Gerrard’s incredible record at Ibrox.
