Website 90Min have claimed in an exclusive interview that Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum wants to sign a new deal with the club, having entered the final six months of his current contract – and Kopites have reacted on Twitter.
Previous reports, though, had suggested that Wijnaldum, 30, was unsure on a new deal with Liverpool – but the latest claims are that he wants to commit himself to Anfield beyond this season. There is an offer on the table from the Reds, but Wijnaldum wants a deal that recognises his worth at Anfield.
Despite his age, Wijnaldum feels as if he is deserving of what could be his final long-term contract in club football. The £25 million [BBC] signing from Newcastle has been one of the club’s most important player in recent seasons. But the board have trepidations about offering a 30-year-old a long-term deal.
Whether the two parties are able to come to an agreement remains to be seen. Now we have entered 2021, Wijnaldum is free to begin pre-contract agreement under the Bosman rule with foriegn clubs.
The report claims interest in Wijnaldum is set to intensify with a number of Europe’s biggest hitters after the Dutchman’s signature next summer, including the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
