Dimitar Berbatov has revealed on his Instagram page that he wishes the ‘unbelievable’ midfielder Thiago Alcantara played for Manchester United as opposed to Liverpool.
Thiago, 29, has been limited to just 135 minutes of action since leaving Bayern Munich last summer. The Spaniard has clocked up just one competitive start since winning the Champions League back in August.
The former Barcelona maestro is currently making positive strides in his recovery from a knee injury, which was sustained following a reckless tackle from Everton striker Richarlison.
He has been spotted training hard at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre in Kirkby and is expected to make a full return in the coming weeks.

According to The Athletic, Thiago was linked with a switch to Manchester United this summer but although they held discussions with his representatives there were no direct talks with Bayern.
Berbatov, who clocked up 149 appearances for United, hailed the qualities of Liverpool’s £25 million [BBC] signing from the Bundesliga.
“Great player,” said Berbatov. “I like him a lot. I wish that he played for Manchester United.
“But, unfortunately, he is playing for Liverpool. But he’s unbelievable.”
What he can still offer Liverpool
With Thiago’s return pencilled in for the coming weeks, there is a sense that the two-time European Cup-winning midfielder is that missing link who can really make the difference to a Liverpool squad that has been decimated to its core in recent weeks.
He is the one player in Klopp’s armoury who is effortlessly able to make the tempo of a match bend to his will.
The Liverpool manager wanted to make the team much more unpredictable and adding a world-class player such as Thiago will certainly do just that.
He would be the team’s technical, possession-based midfielder, something Liverpool have lacked this season. Thiago would be perfect for games Klopp and his team dominate possession.
Thiago could even become the focal point of the team. His return would see him come in and inject more world-class talent during the business end of the season.
This could mean a shift to a new system or style – either way, expect Thiago to be at the forefront of Klopp’s blueprints for success in the New Year.
