According to reports from EuroSport, Jurgen Klopp is urging Liverpool club officials to make a fresh contract offer for Georginio Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum, 30, will be able to begin pre-contract terms with non-English clubs in just a few weeks time, however, his Liverpool manager, Klopp recognises the Dutchman’s importance and is fighting for a resolution.
The report claims that Klopp is usually respectful of decisions made by FSG and sporting director Michael Edwards over contracts and transfer, yet is also willing to step in when he feels there are issues that need addressing.
This is seemingly the case with Wijnaldum, who other than Andy Robertson, has featured more that any other Liverpool player this season.
Wijnaldum has not been able to extend his contract with the Reds since he signed from Newcastle back in 2016 but there is still time to seek a solution.

EuroSport cite Klopp as the driving force behind the deal to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich, and he could be about have a similar impact in the situation regarding Wijnaldum.
He has started 11 of the 12 Premier League matches Liverpool have clocked up this season and the club may have to act soon to warn off potential buyers.
It had seem that both Liverpool and Wijnaldum had accepted that the Dutchman was to be moved on at the end of the season, but Klopp refuses to believe that an agreement cannot still be reached.
What RTK has to say
We’re not surprised by this stance from Klopp. Wijnaldum has been his most trusted midfielder throughout his tenure – and his importance has grown in the midst of Liverpool’s injury crisis.
His versatility alone is worth a fortune to the club, let alone his durability. The fact Liverpool chose not to cash-in on Wijnaldum in the summer has proven to be a masterstroke.
Wijnaldum has proven his worth to Liverpool in recent weeks and it’s time the club recognise that.
While it’s understandable the club want to maintain precedence of not handing out lucrative deals to players over 30, Wijnaldum is just too valuable to lose.
Wijnaldum may indeed still want to leave come the end of the season, we could hardly blame him if he wants a new challenge.
But Liverpool have to do their part and recognise that player’s such as Wijnaldum are near impossible to come by in the market.
If Klopp thinks he is worth fighting for, a new deal should hopeful be on the cards in the imminent future.
