Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Alcantara are all in contention to win the award alongside seven of the world’s best rated players.
Completing the list of nominees were Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Paris Saint Germain duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.
Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp was also nominated for the five-man shortlist for the Best FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year while Alisson Becker was nominated for the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.
Klopp is up against Marcelo Bielsa of Leeds United, Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid, Julen Lopetegui of Sevilla and Hans-Dieter Flick of Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Alisson, who won the award last year, faces competition from Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, Paris Saint Germain’s Keylor Navas, Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
Two expert panels – one for women’s football and one for men’s football – have selected the candidates for each category.
Public voting is now open on FIFA.com and will run until December 9, with the victors set to be announced two days later.
Supporters have gathered on social media to celebrate the achievements of the aforementioned candidates which will see Liverpool as the best represented club at the awards next month.
