When Jurgen Klopp was informed that he could be without his first-choice defensive quartet for the clash against Leicester, he probably felt that Liverpool’s current injury crisis couldn’t possibly get any worse.
However, the 2020/21 campaign has proven a season like no other and the chaotic scheduling has taken yet another victim from Merseyside, this time in the form of Neco Williams.
The 19-year-old defender was benched last night during Wales’ 3-1 Nations League victory against Finland after stand-in coach Rob Page revealed that Williams had taken a ‘kick to the foot’ during the clash with the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.
Page added that the knock on Williams was ‘a little bit sore’ which compounds yet another injury woe for Klopp to deal with – the fifth in the space of 10 days.
Whilst there is every confidence that the injury isn’t too serious, it will still leave the Liverpool manager undoubtedly frustrated of the club’s current injury crisis.

One thing for certain this weekend, is that the English champions will be without both Mohamed Salah and Joe Gomez for the clash against Leicester City.
Prior to his minor fitness setback, Williams was in contention to cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold against the Foxes after his defensive counterpart suffered a calf problem during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City earlier this month.
Liverpool fans remain optimistic that Williams will have recovered in just a matter of days, but either way, it is a situation that both Klopp and the club could have best avoided.
Those on Merseyside will be hoping that the worst of Liverpool’s injury luck is firmly behind them, although given the fact we are only just entering the busiest period of the season suggests there could be a few more unwelcome surprises along the way.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of social media responses from Liverpool supporters reacting the news surrounding Williams.
