Jose Enrique has urged Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland that he is always welcome at Liverpool following quotes from The ECHO which quoted the Norwegian international saying that the Premier League champions are ‘the best team in the world’.

Haaland, 20, has taken the Bundesliga by storm since joining Dortmund from RB Salzburg back in January. He has already netted five goals in his opening five appearances of the 2020/21 campaign. Since his £17 million transfer, Haaland has clocked up a whopping 21 goals in 23 appearances for Dortmund.

According to The Evening Standard, Haaland has a release clause in Germany worth £68 million, but that clause won’t come into play until 2022. Considering the eye-watering sum of money, it is likely he will remain at Dortmund until then at the earliest.

Haaland felt the full force of Jurgen Klopp’s world-conquering team in the Champions League last season where the 2020 Golden Boy nominee was filmed speaking about Liverpool before the European clash at Anfield, as quoted by the ECHO: “The best team in the world.. very good fans, stadium, atmosphere, everything.”

Former Liverpool defender Enrique has since reacted on Instagram, claiming the talented striker is always welcome at Anfield if he continues his devastating goalscoring exploits. He already has scored six goals for his national side Norway in just seven appearances.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool have a forward-thinking approach when it comes to transfers so it wouldn’t be too ridiculous to suggest that a player of Haaland’s calibre isn’t already in the works for a later date in the future.

Roberto Firmino is 29, and is slowly approaching the declining stages of his career. If Liverpool are to get ahead of the game they need to think towards a long-term viable replacement.

The Brazilian is renowned for his qualities out of possession meaning if Liverpool were to move for Haaland it wouldn’t warrant a like-for-like solution.

Haaland is a much more proven goalscorer having set the continent alight last season with his predatory like instincts in front of goal. If Liverpool were to sign him it would be an addition similar to that of Thiago Alcantara and Virgil van Dijk where the club spends big to secure services of a ready-made European superstar.

Adding him at some point in the future would provide an immediate injection of goals and given Liverpool’s front-three are all the same age, fresh attacking additions will soon become an immediate priority.
