Diogo Jota continues to go from strength-to-strength for both club and country.

In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, who was self-isolating having tested positive for COVID-19, it was the 23-year-old Liverpool man who took matters into his own hands during Portugal’s Nations League encounter with Sweden.

Jota scored twice and assisted for his country in what was a stunning performance following a 3-0 victory to send Portugal top of League A Group 2.

His first goal was finished with aplomb after a curling ball from deep found the run of Jota inside the box who cooly controlled before firing past Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen – this would be welcomed again at the weekend please Diogo.

If the first goal demonstrated Jota’s predatory instincts in front of goal then the second showcased just how devastating he can be with the ball at his feet having received the ball on the left byline to cut inside and breeze past two defenders before nonchalantly tucking the ball into the bottom corner.
