Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has reached out to two of his former teammates Roberto Firmino and Alisson Becker on social media after the Reds duo celebrated their birthdays on Friday.

Lovren, 31, recently departed the club following a six-year spell on Merseyside which saw him clock up 185 appearances for Liverpool with the Croatian defender winning both the Premier League and Champions League.

He has since joined Zenit St Petersburg after Liverpool sanctioned a £10.9 million [Guardian] deal for Lovren to join the Russian champions.

Lovren has since featured 10 times for his new club and even scored during his second game Zenit during a 2-0 victory against FK Rostov which saw the Croatia international thunder home a towering header.

The former Southampton defender also won a trophy during his inaugural appearance for Zenit after they beat Lokomotiv Moskow 2-1 in the Russian Super Cup back in August.

Lovren may be enjoying life with his new club but the 2018 World Cup finalist hasn’t forgotten about his friends from Liverpool after the defender took to Instagram to send a touching message to Brazilian duo Firmino and Alisson.

Both Liverpool stars celebrated their birthdays on Friday which saw Firmino turn 29 and Alisson 28.

Lovren’s caption read: “Happy Birthday to both of my Brazilian brothers. Have a blessing day, miss you both.”

Lovren received responses from both Firmino and Alisson as well as Liverpool’s club-captain Jordan Henderson.

Henderson’s message to his former teammate and long-time friend follows not too shortly after the Reds skipper sent a heartwarming farewell package to Lovren following his departure.

Lovren had been a lightning rod for criticism throughout his time at Anfield, however, Lovren was highly rated amongst his teammates and it showed in the touching letter Henderson wrote to the defender following his exit.

Henderson also sent Lovren a replica of the Premier League trophy following Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s 19th league title success last season.

In response, Lovren wrote: “Thank you, Captain! No words needed…except some tears. I am blessed man who had an incredible journey with you.

“You are the real man in the dressing room! Good luck in the new season and thank you for the amazing gift.”
