Liverpool club-captain Jordan Henderson recently sent a heartwarming farewell package to former Reds defender Dejan Lovren – and the Croatia international has since responded on Twitter.
Lovren, 31, recently put an end to a six-year spell at Anfield after agreeing to join Zenit St Peterburg in a deal worth in the region of £10.9 million.
The former Southampton star had become a lightning rod for criticism throughout his time on Merseyside, however, Lovren was highly rated amongst his teammates and it showed in the touching letter Henderson wrote to the defender following his exit.
Liverpool’s irreplaceable skipper penned a heartfelt tribute to his ex-teammate, stating how much Lovren will be missed in the dressing by Henderson himself as well as his other Reds teammates.
Henderson also sent Lovren a replica of the Premier League trophy following Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s precision to the title last season.
Lovren has since responded to his former captain on Twitter and indicated that it would be difficult to hide away the tears following such a thought-out gesture.
Thank you Captain!
No words needed…except some tears 😢I am blessed man who had an incredible journey with you.
You are the real man in the dressing room!
Good luck in the new season and thank you for the amazing gift. @JHenderson pic.twitter.com/ooao9sjkg3

“It spoke volumes about the Liverpool captain about how he values big characters in the dressing room and how there is a special bond at the club between this inspiring group of players.
Players such as Lovren can sometimes be undervalued by the media as they only see what occurs on the pitch while players such as Henderson will see what the Croatian offers the team on a daily basis.

The fact, Henderson took time to do such a thing typifies why the Liverpool captain has become the embodiment of everything that is good about this fantastic Reds team.
Also, Henderson himself chose not to share anything regarding his emotional gesture on social media which proves he likes to maintain a reserved and humble approach.
Henderson’s gesture will go a long way into demonstrating just how important Lovren had been in the club’s recent unrivalled success and it could show just how difficult a task Liverpool have under their belts in looking to replace such a big voice in the dressing room.
