Liverpool will seemingly have an uncontested route to the signing of Thiago Alcantara following reports that Barcelona have pulled out of the running for the Spanish international.
Thiago, 29, recently entered the final year of his Bayern Munich contract and his future remains uncertain after negotiations regarding a contract extension broke down earlier this summer.
The recently crowned Champions League winners are reluctant to lose one of their best players on a Bosman next year so will be desperate to cash-in on Thiago before the end of the transfer window.
Reports in Germany have claimed for weeks that discussions between Liverpool and the Bundesliga champions were expected to take speed yet there is still no concrete evidence to suggest the Reds are even interested in a deal.
A number of reputable Liverpool journalists such as James Pearce and Melissa Reddy claim that the likelihood of a deal being struck for the former Barcelona maestro hinges on the future of Georginio Wijnaldum who has persistently been linked with a move away from Anfield to the Camp Nou.

The Holland international, like Thiago, has just one year remaining on his current Liverpool deal and the club have no immediate plans to extend Wijnaldum’s contract which has fuelled speculation that the former Newcastle United star could be set to reunite with Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.
The Catalonia giants had also been linked with a move to resign their former La Liga-winning midfielder having risen through the ranks at the club’s La Masia development system.
However, despite no bad blood between Barcelona and Thiago following the player’s decision to join Bayern in 2013, it appears as though Barca have now dropped their interest in resigning Thiago.
According to ESPN, Thiago will not be joining Barcelona this summer with the club hinting that their priority target remains Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum.
What RTK has to say
Reports regarding Barcelona’s removal from the ongoing Thiago conundrum could hand Liverpool a free run at negotiating a fee for the £27m-rated player although Liverpool are said to be unwilling to pay such a fee for a player approaching the twilight of his career and also with just a year left on his current club contract.
Pearce and Reddy recently claimed that Liverpool will only be in the market for another midfield option if they were to sell on of their current Premier League winners meaning developments regarding the Reds and Thiago are unlikely to gather speed until Wijnaldum’s imminent future becomes clearer.
The transfer window remains open for another month meaning negotiations could go well into the start of the season.
Liverpool remain reluctant to sell Wijnaldum and Klopp has included the player in his immediate plans for the club’s Premier League title defence which is just days away ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday.
It looks set to be a transfer saga that unfortunately will continue to drag on for the foreseeable future.
