Liverpool’s first-team stars have been ramping up preparations for the inaugural fixture of the club’s Premier League title defence which commences on Saturday against Leeds United.
Following on from the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal as well as the 7-2 pre-season victory against Blackpool at the weekend, Liverpool were back at Melwood to train today.
A fully fit squad with the exception of a few players away on international duty were all involved and pictured during the session.
Harry Wilson was photographed among his Liverpool teammates for the first time since pre-season began after the Wales international returned following consecutive victories in the UEFA Nations League against Finland and Bulgaria.
Wilson is among a host of players the Reds would be willing to part ways with this summer, along with the likes of Loris Karius, Marko Grujic, Xherdan Shaqiri and Nat Phillips.
So far, the Reds are yet to receive any significant offers for the aforementioned stars with only Dejan Lovren so far raising sufficient transfer funds following the Croatian’s £10.9 million departure from Liverpool to Zenit St Petersburg.
It is unlikely Wilson or any of the players currently listed by the club as potential departures will feature during the Anfield clash with Leeds at the weekend.
Wilson was back in training for Liverpool on Tuesday for the first time since his loan spell with AFC Bournemouth concluded in July.
He missed the entirity of the club’s pre-season tour of Austria but has since recovered from a minor injury to link up with the Wales squad for the international break.
Wilson and Neco Williams both represented Liverpool in Ryan Giggs’ international squad with the latter rounding off a dream debut with a stunning injury-time-winning goal against Bulgaria on Sunday.
Five PL clubs interested in Harry Wilson
According to reports from The Mirror, Liverpool are claimed to currently value Wilson in the region of £20 million with the Reds reportedly ‘refusing to budge’ with regards to price amid interest from Aston Villa, Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton and Crystal Palace.
David Anderson of The Mirror claimed that Dean Smith and Villa were leading the chase for Wilson but have “baulked at their valuation,” with the Midlands outfit potentially “prepared to go as high as £12 million.”
This is a considerable drop-off from the asking-price Liverpool are currently commading for the 23-year-old winger. Villa are reportedly looking to call the Reds’ bluff and see if they will be willing to offload Wilson for a cut-price fee.
However, it is unlikely Liverpool will budge given their history in the transfer window and if a deal cannot be agreed then Klopp is prepared to include Wilson as part of his 2020/21 plans after the club confirmed another loan spell for the Welshman was not an option this summer.
Jordan Henderson was back in full-training despite missing out during Liverpool’s final pre-season outfit of the season against Neil Critchley’s Blackpool on Saturday.
The rest of the squad was comprised of those who were involved in the week’s international round-up of fixtures, including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Takumi Minamino, Naby Keita, Joel Matip, Divock Origi and James Milner.
Phillips and Wilson were also involved while youngsters Curtis Jones, Billy Koumetio, Harvey Elliott, Williams and Sepp van den Berg were also pictured during Klopp’s session.
