A number of Liverpool’s senior stars have taken to Instagram following time away with their respective national teams.
Georgino Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk were both pictured ahead of their inaugural Nations League matches against Poland on Friday and then Italy on Monday, September 8.
Wijnaldum has recently been linked with attracting interest from Spain following his former international manager Ronald Koeman’s arrival at Barcelona.
Sport in Spain have reported that an approach for the Netherland’s international is now ‘taking shape’ after Koeman made the signing a ‘non-negotiable priority’.
Despite growing contractual speculation, Wijnaldum – who signed from Newcastle for £25 million [BBC] in 2016 – featured for 90 minutes during Liverpool’s recent 1-1 stalemate against Arsenal that saw the Reds narrowly miss out on penalties at Wembley.
Wijnaldum, 29, had a higher pass completion rate (96%) than any other Liverpool player during the Community Shield defeat. He also completed 54 passes as well as 63 touches according to WhoScored.
Both of Liverpool’s Dutch maestros Wijnaldum and Van Dijk were pictured enjoying their time away on international duty.
Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was another senior member to take to Instagram following his time away with the Republic of Ireland national team.
Currently managed by Stephen Kenny, Kelleher will be hoping to add to the experience gained during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Austria where the 21-year-old goalkeeper benefitted under goalkeeping coach John Achterberg and senior members Alisson Becker, Adrian and Loris Karius.
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is another senior star currently on duty representing his country.
The England international is expected to start under Gareth Southgate during respective fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.
Gomez’s central defensive partner remains in question for both of the Three Lion’s Nation League fixtures after Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was removed from the squad following his arrest in Greece.
Gomez was pictured alongside Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham and England captain Harry Kane on Instagram repping the new home and away strip that is expected to be worn during the Iceland match on Friday.
