Thiago, 29, has been one of the most highly anticipated transfer saga’s this summer as Liverpool still wait to make an official move for the former Barcelona maestro.
The report claims that Liverpool do indeed ‘want to sign Thiago’ although the Reds are yet to make official contact.
Simon Hughes of The Athletic recently reported that Thiago is officially waiting on Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards to make the first move.
Thiago himself has said his goodbyes to his teammates following Bayern’s Champions League success on Sunday which saw the German outfit crowned kings of Europe for the sixth time.
Links between Thiago and Liverpool have been going on since June after Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract went into its final year with the club yet to offer the Dutchman an extension.
Jurgen Klopp will not want a repeat of the Emre Can saga in 2018 after the German international was allowed to leave the club on a free transfer at the age of just 24.
The challenge for Liverpool is that the club are not prepared to alter their transfer approach for a player with just one year on his contract meaning the Reds could still walk away from a deal entirely similar to how they did with Timo Werner.
Bayern currently value Thiago at £30 million [Telegraph].
Edwards has shifted the club’s fortunes in the transfer market over the years and for that he will have the supporter’s backing.
For the Thiago situation to move on in the coming days, there will need to be developments regarding the potential outgoings of Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson.
According to The Mirror, both players are valued in the region of £20m each while Xherdan Shaqiri could also be used to raise sufficient transfer funds.
On Monday, Bayern staff held a victory party following their European triumph. “Thiago’s family was there and it looked like he has decided to say goodbye,” Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said after the Champions League victory.
“We have read a lot about Liverpool but they have not contacted us yet.”
Following the ongoing developments, a number of Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to respond to the latest updates hinting Thiago could happen sooner rather than later.
Here are a selection of responses…
@LFC I beg you. Sign Thiago Alcantara 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

He's leaving RIGHT NOW though. He wont be available in a year from now on free. Everybody knows – it's now or never.
