Liverpool supporters react to Aissa Mandi reports linking him to Anfield

According to reports, Liverpool have made contact with Real Betis regarding the sale of defender Aissa Mandi – and Reds supporters have given their verdict concerning a potential transfer on social media.

Liverpool have reportedly already made a £10 million bid for the Algerian international, who is entering into the final year of his contract despite his release clause currently at a hefty £30 million.

Mandi, 28, was part of a struggling Real Betis side that finished 15th in La Liga. According to reports, he was previously the subject of interest from Arsenal.

Media outlets in Spain suggest that Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Mandi as the Premier League champions look to fill in the void left by Dejan Lovren who recently joined Zenit Saint Petersburg.

He has made 29 appearances in Real Betis’ defensive quartet this term including captaining the side in their dramatic 3-2 loss to Barcelona in February.

Mandi has received numerous plaudits for his versatility with the player renowned for his pace, positional awareness and ability to play in a number of positions across the backline.

With 55 international caps to his name, Mandi was part of the triumphant Algeria national side that defeated Sadio Mane and Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final last summer.

While Mandi is traditionally preferred as a central defensive option he can be just as effective at full-back which would effectively help cover in two positions with Liverpool in need of a naturally left-sided replacement for Andy Robertson.

The ongoing implications of the global pandemic could force Betis into considering a cut-price deal for the defender who could leave as a free agent next season.

Following the reports, a number of Liverpool supporters have reacted to the club’s latest potential interest.

While some think he should be given a chance, others believe a player who flirted with relegation in Spain this season isn’t the calibre of player the champions of England, Europe and the world should be in contention for.
