What a night!
Words cannot describe the emotions that come to mind when describing this special team.
Champions of England. Champions of Europe. Champions of the world. Champions of Everything.
Despite it being a night of pure emotion and an outpour of 30 years worth of relief, there was a football match to disect.
Liverpool earned a dramatic 5-3 victory over Chelsea to ensure the Premier League trophy was lifted in style.
Surprisingly, one of the key talking points from a night of pure drama was from a player in Chelsea blue rather than Liverpool red.
With Frank Lampard’s team trailing the champions by 4-1 the game appeared done and dusted. However, one substitute completely turned the match on his head and that was Christian Pulisic.
The former Borussia Dortmund starlet was sensational from the bench and produced an Eden Hazard like Anfield cameo having completely bewildered Liverpool’s defence to produce a sensational assist for Tammy Abraham before scoring a superb goal himself.
Pulisic was a former player of Jurgen Klopp for a short time in Germany and was even the subject of an £11 million (Telegraph) Liverpool bid back in 2016.
Indeed Chelsea secured the services of Pulisic for a fee of £58 million (BBC) and following on from his Anfield cameo it certainly looks like money well spent.
It’s been a stunning debut season in English football for the USA international. Pulisic has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers this season having clocked up 32 appearances – he has scored 10 goals and has registered the same number of assists.
There was little surprise that the American’s performance left Kopites profusely impressed. Some supporters even encouraged Liverpool to consider making a move for the talented Chelsea talisman.
Here is a selection of responses calling for Pulisic to be monitored for a potential Anfield bid…
I think my biggest takeaway from this game is that we really should have signed Christian Pulisic… #LFC
