Liverpool supporters would welcome the prospect of signing Norwich City's Jamal Lewis

While Liverpool’s upcoming transfer activity is expected to be quieter than that of most Premier League champions in recent years due to the ongoing global pandemic, this isn’t to rule out the possibility of Jurgen Klopp looking at a few potential bargains.

According to Goal, the recently crowned champions of England are weighing up a bid for Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis.

Lewis, 22, would represent more than an adequate cover option for Andy Robertson, who has quickly established himself as the most highly rated player in the Premier League in his position.

Lewis has already clocked up 27 appearances in the top-flight this season and has put in a number of impressive PL performances, most notably against Leicester City in March where Lewis struck the winning goal.

In terms of cover at left-back, Liverpool’s options are worryingly thin. Neco Williams, predominantly right-footed, recently covered for Robertson against Brighton while James Milner has also been a regularly used option.

An area in need of urgent cover

The only players naturally suited to the left besides Robertson are Yaser Larouci and Adam Lewis. However, Larouci is reportedly in talks to join either Leeds or Brentford (Goal) while Lewis is expected to go out on loan.

This makes the case of finding another at option at left-back all the more urgent. Goal have claimed in a new report that Lewis, who has recently been relegated with Norwich City, has an asking price of £20 million – according to the Belfast Telegraph.

With Norwich’s Premier League fate already confirmed, Liverpool will be in a greater position of strength when negotiating price.

The prospect of Lewis joining the current English, European and world champions is something that has created an influx of excitement amongst a number of Kopites.
