Leicester City extended their third-place advantage in the Premier League to five points after the Foxes took apart Aston Villa in a 4-0 massacre at the King Power Stadium – and many Liverpool supporters have reacted to the performance of Harvey Barnes.

Brendan Rodgers’ team ended a miserable run of just two wins in their previous eight league fixtures to claim their 16th league victory of the season as Leicester sit eight points clear in the remaining Champions League places.

Dean Smith’s Villa remain in the relegation zone after a fourth consecutive league defeat and a fifth in all competitions.

Jamie Vardy ended his goal-drought after coming off the bench to claim an impressive brace following two second-half strikes.

Leicester had missed Vardy for the past couple of weeks with a calf injury, and the former England international had failed to score since 21 December when he last scored against Manchester City a the Etihad Stadium.

Since then he had gone nine games in league and cup without scoring – although he still remains the top scorer in the Premier League, with 19 goals.

Barnes was the outstanding performer on the night and scored the opening goal after capitalising on a catastrophic goalkeeping error from former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

The 22-year-old has netted four goals in his past four home Premier League games, after failing to find the back of the net in any of his previous 22 league outings.

The England U21 international has already clocked up 54 appearances for the Foxes and has enjoyed successful loan spells with West Brom and Barnsley.

This season, Barnes has racked up an impressive total of seven goals and the same number of assists in 27 matches in all competitions under former Liverpool manager Rodgers.

Following his latest glowing audition in the English top-flight, some Liverpool supporters have taken to Twitter urging Jurgen Klopp to consider making a move for the former MK Dons star.

Here are a selection of tweets calling for Liverpool to make an approach for Barnes in the summer…
