After a heavy 3-0 defeat at Watford that ensured Liverpool would not go a full Premier League season unbeaten, the Reds return to the capital just three days following their first league defeat in 44 matches.
Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s team, a catastrophic display at Vicarage Road can be quickly put the bed when Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
One player who has been deemed fit to feature following a muscle injury is vice-captain James Milner. The Englishman hasn’t played domestically for the Reds since Liverpool beat Everton in the third round of the competition back in January.
Milner, 33, showcased his excitement at returning to the mix for the European champions and posted a rallying cry on Instagram for his Liverpool teammates calling for a response following the disappointing setback at Watford.
He said: “Ready for a battle tomorrow night.”
Joe Gomez and Milner have both confirmed as fit for Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea on tonight with the duo both absent from Vicarage Road at the weekend.
However, both are available for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Frank Lampard’s team, with Klopp also reporting no fresh injury concerns ahead of the visit to the capital.
“No new ones [injuries], I think. Joe and Millie are back. The others aren’t,” Klopp revealed in his press conference on Monday.
Club captain Jordan Henderson (hamstring) and Xherdan Shaqiri (calf) remain sidelined.
