Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has posted on Instagram after inspiring Rangers into the Europa League last-16 following their victory against Portuguese outfit Braga on Wednesday.
It was a collective of former Reds heroes who inspired the Gers to victory after Ryan Kent scored an emphatic winning goal as Gerrard’s team earned a 1-0 win over Braga in Portugal to progress into the last 16 of the Europa League, winning 4-2 on aggregate.
The Scottish runners-up made it back-to-back European knockout victories off the back of a remarkable European comeback after overturning a two-goal deficit with less than half-an-hour to play in the first-leg to win 3-2 at Ibrox last week – and now the Scottish Premiership runners-up have sent the Primeira Liga giants home packing.
The man-of-the-moment Kent stole the show in the second half after Ianis Hagi spotted the tricky winger’s run and played a delightful chip over the Braga defence for Kent to run onto which the 23-year-old converted in style.
Kent took a succulent first-touch past a Braga defender leaving him for dead in his tracks before progressing towards goal and letting loose a controlled side-foot finish into the bottom corner sending Gerrard and the away supporters into raptures.
Following the match, Gerrard took to Instagram to showcase his pride at his players who ensured the Europa League would still have Scottish representation after bitter rivals Celtic crashed out of the competition following a 3-1 defeat at Celtic Park to FC Copenhagen.
Gerrard’s Gers were the first team to secure themselves in the pot for today’s draw for the last-16 draw where Rangers could face the likes of Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen Manchester United or Wolves.
