In the other European knockout tie, Borussia Dortmund took apart French champions Paris Saint Germain after another sensational brace from wonderkid Erling Haaland earnt the Bundesliga giants a crucial 2-1 victory.

Kopites would have been secretly observing the affair with a keen eye on reported target Jadon Sancho who has been touted with a move to the European champions and vindicated the club’s ‘interest’ following a scintillating display to put Dortmund firmly in the driving seat.

It was the young talent of Haaland and Sancho that ultimately proved too much to handle for a PSG side that included two of the world’s most expensive duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that Liverpool have made their interest known to Dortmund and that the club wish to be kept informed on the teenager in the summer with the England international currently valued at £100 million.

While Liverpool’s return to the Spanish capital where they were crowned kings of Europe for the sixth time in June took an ugly turn after the Reds failed to muster one solitary shot on target, Sancho was showcasing in front of the Yellow Wall yesterday that he is a player destined to rise to the pinnacle of European football.

Given Liverpool’s imminent status as English champions-elect, and their European defence still very much alive with the power of Anfield awaiting in the return leg against Atletico in three weeks time, would Jurgen Klopp profit from adding Sancho to a squad that is already littered in world-class talent?
